Accommodation
Description
Tideway is a tranquil three-bedroom retreat located in an elevated position in Malpas, an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) and special scientific interest (SSSI) on the Cornish Riviera. Tideway offers you the best of both worlds, being just a 10-minute drive to Truro’s historic bustling city centre and Cathedral.
● Three bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin/double, 1 single)
● Uninterrupted, elevated views across the creek with marina and pub 1 minute away
● Five-person hot tub and extensive tiered gardens with BBQ
● Garage parking and EV charger
● Log burner
● Kayaks
● Children and dogs very welcome
● 3 miles to Truro town centre with multiple supermarkets and an array of excellent restaurants and bars
Outstanding natural beauty
Enter Cornish holiday heaven at Tideway with world-class views of the spectacular tidal estuary where the Truro and Tresillian rivers join the river Fal, a haven for nature and birdlife including Curlews, Egrets, Ospreys and Grey Herons.
Spacious living and sleeping
Guests can relax in the spacious lounge complete with a Chesneys log burner, comfortable sofas and a sublime cushioned window seat/daybed overlooking the creek (binoculars provided!). The through dining room has a six-person dining table and eclectic antique style.
The kitchen is well-stocked with plenty of equipment for discerning cooks as well as a full oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, and large fridge-freezer.
There is also a downstairs WC.
Upstairs, there are three bright bedrooms – the master has a super-king bed and views across the creek, the second has two full size single beds that have been zip-and-linked together to make another super-king but can be separated if required. This room opens out onto a large decked area which catches the evening sun. The third bedroom has one full size single bed and also enjoys views over the river.
Hot tub and tiered gardens
The crowning glory of Tideway is a new hot tub (seating 5 people) in the private raised gardens. From here you’ll experience breathtaking views over the creek in the daytime and stargazing at night - shooting stars can be viewed.
Outside there is a choice of spaces to enjoy – at the back of the house is garden on several levels, leading up to a large lawn, complete with patio at the top. Here there is outside dining for six, and a BBQ, perfect for enjoying lazy afternoons watching the boats come and go in the marina below. There is also a sunny paved garden to the front of the house with garden tables and chairs and a picnic bench.
There is private garage parking for one car, and space for another medium size car on the drive. For your added convenience, a 7kW untethered EV charger is available in the garage.
The area is glorious any time of year, with the changing seasons bringing their own colours and wildlife and river pursuits including Kayaks – we have two kayaks which are yours to borrow at Tideway.
Malpas Village
Malpas has an excellent pub, the Heron Inn, and there is also a farm shop and tearoom by the marina (all 1 minute away). Nearby Boscawen Park has a large adventure playground, café for takeaway food and drinks and pay-and-play tennis courts. There are wonderful countryside walks straight from the house and regular boat tours which you can take from the marina to the bustling town of Falmouth, the National Trust Trelissick Gardens or the beautiful port of St. Mawes. Alternatively, The King Harry Ferry is only 15 mins away, taking you (and your car) over the water and into the Roseland Peninsula and Heritage Coast. Additionally, there is a regular bus service into Truro, three times a day.
Enchanting Truro
Truro offers numerous restaurants, bars and independent shops. You can soak up a little Cornish history at the Royal Cornwall Museum, and there are regular concerts which take place at the stunning Truro Cathedral and Hall for Cornwall. Don’t miss the Truro Food Festival in September and the Falmouth Food Festival in May.
World-class attractions
For more trips The Eden Project is just 30 minutes away, as are The Lost Gardens of Heligan and there are a wealth of other gardens, properties and seafront towns to visit nearby. Being conveniently located for both the north and south coasts, you will be spoilt for choice with a plethora of golden sandy beaches, picturesque harbours, and hidden coves all waiting to be discovered. St Ives is just a 40-minute drive, for example.
Child and dog-friendly
Young children are very welcome at Tideway, and there is a travel cot, highchair and stair gate available if needed, as well as some books and toys. Up to two well-behaved dogs are also very welcome in this standout property.
Book easily online today through the Finest Retreats website and start looking forward to your next Cornish holiday!
Please note: There are over 20 steps from the road level to the house. Some of the steps and levels in the garden are steep and varied in height, and may not be suitable for anyone with walking difficulties, and young children should be supervised at all times for safety. Tideway welcomes up to 2 dogs, although it is requested that they do not go on furniture or in the bedrooms.
Malpas is a small quiet village, and all guests are asked to respect the local residents accordingly. Strictly no parties or events are allowed, and we ask that unnecessary noise is kept to a minimum after 10pm. Any guests not adhering to this will be asked to leave the property.

Definitely cleaning. The drawers in the kitchen were a mess, there was not even any hand soap left in the bathroom, no welcome pack except some left over teabags and spices and oil. I have run an Airbnb myself and it was poor reception tbh. Lots osee more
Definitely cleaning. The drawers in the kitchen were a mess, there was not even any hand soap left in the bathroom, no welcome pack except some left over teabags and spices and oil. I have run an Airbnb myself and it was poor reception tbh. Lots of areas around the house need a little TLC. It is nonetheless a lovely spot with two good sized bedrooms. The third bedroom is tiny with rickety furniture. Overall a good stay with fantastic views but needs just a little more attention to the kitchen and bathroom areas.

This is such a fantastic house. We stayed in Malpas last year and loved it so much we decided to come back but wanted more space. This house gave us that and more. It's a home not a holiday home, exceptionally well equipped, and a lovely feel to it. Light airy rooms with magnificent views across the River Fal. My partner did not want to come home. This area is so peaceful but is close to everything. You can explore the whole of Cornwall from here without spending all day in the car. There is a fantastic walk from the house to St Clements and the cafe and pub are such a bonus being just down the road. One of the big pluses though, having stayed in this area before is the garage. It can be a nightmare to park and gets very busy and this was not an issue with an enormous garage for us to use. All in all a perfect stay and we will be looking to rebook for next year. Thank you.

A little disappointed by a few things at the property
1 toilet roll provided (there was 4 of us) 1 tea towel..1 bin bag, 1 hand towel. The steps going upto the property were lose and uneven in parts (bricks moved under feet ..felt unsafe) Again the steps at the rear got very slippy and after rain my husband slipped on them after taking the dog into the garden (no hand rail) The toilet seat needs fixing, it moves when you sit on it. On the whole the house felt very cold and we did try to increase the thermostat but this constantly reset itself. The property could do with a sweeping brush on the premises, the hoover was very cumbersome and sweeping a whole floor with a dustpan and brush isn't feasible. |

The Views are simply stunning and the quality/comfort of accommodation was first class. Really easy to access Truro and surrounding region, whilst feeling remote and peaceful. We will be back!!
