Description
Stay in the Grade II listed Georgian stately hall, situated in picturesque grounds and gardens within the village of Hickleton, South Yorkshire.
The original hall built in 1748 has been previously used as headquarters in the Second World War, before being converted to a girl’s boarding school in the later 1940s, and most recently has been undergoing extensive refurbishment to be restored to its former glory. Finest Retreats are pleased to offer a fantastic spacious apartment within Hickleton Hall for up to nine guests, with access to part of the 17 acres of gardens and woodland.
Transport back in time when you enter the sweeping driveway and are met by the eye-catching period property. With parking for multiple vehicles, enter via your own private entrance on the ground floor, where the beauty of the historic building continues in the elegant chapel bedroom, with gorgeous sky views through the glass ceiling providing generous natural light. Why not take a moment to discover its historical past with beautiful paintings and tapestries and uncover its and bygone era.
With steps down to the lower ground floor, find two king size bedrooms and separate bathroom with shower. Along the wide-open corridor, a diner/kitchenette with microwave, kettle, and coffee machine.
Recently opened for June 2023, a new lounge/games room with piano, pool table, smart TV and Wi-Fi – an ideal room for family get togethers and making memories. Along with the new fourth bedroom, including a king size four poster bed and period furniture.
Previously featured as a filming location for many TV programmes and paranormal documentaries, it’s a famous piece of Doncaster History. For more information or bookings please contact Finest Retreats!
Please be aware when booking, security is always available on site to monitor the grounds; however, they will not require access to the apartment during your stay.

This is the second time I’ve stayed at Hickleton Hall and it was just as wonderful as the first stay if not better (due to the lovely weather during our stay).

The property and grounds are incredibly beautiful and my entire family enjoyed our time here. We had a small issue with toilet being blocked which was resolved very quickly and efficiently by the grounds keeper Frank, who was a delight to meet and chat with. Frank was very accommodating during our stay and even explained some of the history of the house to us. A top guy! We are looking forward to returning, thank you :)

The property manager was very helpful and informative about the history of the house.

Lighting in the kitchen area made it difficult to prepare food safely. Fortunately I had read previous reviews and bought my own additional lights. The fridge door was broken which made it difficult to store milk upright. Also in the kitchen could do with extra electrical sockets for the kitchen equipment. Maybe additional extension cables in the games room for the kids' myriad electrical devices. Wifi was good with extenders everywhere, but the broadband kept dropping out, couldn't even watch a tv programme without interruption, so investing in a better broadband package would be beneficial. Fortunately we bought books and board games which temporarily staved off teenage angst about being disconnected from t'internet.

For a house this large it was cosy and accommodating, haven’t had a nights sleep that good in ages! Considering we were there over a misty and wet March weekend the house was warm when we got there and there was even some fizz (which was delicious, thanks so much) waiting for us in the fridge, a lovely touch. The kitchen was somewhat lacking but I’m assuming that’s down to the age of the property and we listened to previous reviews and took our air fryer, it really didn’t detract at all from our stay as everything else was great. The pictures really don’t do it justice, would definitely stay again.

Light levels difficult, needs extra lights in kitchen and dining area.Kitchen not great for long stays, we took a hob, lack of plug sockets.
Only one bathroom, not the problem we anticipated, only 5 of us, but might be an issue if 9 staying.

It’s a wonderfully unusual space but the fridge is very small so plan accordingly and check the facilities in case you were expecting a full kitchen.
