Description
Tucked away on the outskirts of Burlescombe near Uffculme in Devon, is this lovely one-bedroom barn conversion, Hillfarrow Hideaway. It's location is on the main corridor to Cornwall, north Devon and Bristol which makes it a great stop off. Not just for holiday makers but also business travellers.
A welcoming interior awaits, full of delicate finishing touches, including the old oak breakfast countertop and hand-crafted sliding door which screens the bedroom, make this property a delight for two to stay.
All on one level, enter the open-plan living space and into the small, yet well-equipped kitchenette with a combi oven/microwave, fridge and kettle. Whip up a tasty meal to enjoy on the rear enclosed patio, or around the breakfast bar. As the evening draws in, why not curl up on the plush sofa and select a family favourite from the TV in front of the electric fire. With a stargazing window viewed from the suspended king-size bed, you can marvel at the night sky in this section of the International Dark Skies Reserve.
Situated within the rich heritage of Mid Devon, there is so much to discover including local museums, castles, and historic houses. There are many stunning beaches within 30 minutes drive - North or South! The Jurassic Coastline is within 45 mins drive and for those avid surfers Woolacombe etc. is approximately 30 minutes drive away. For nature enthusiasts you can immerse yourself in the idyllic Blackdown Hills AONB or Culmstock Beacon (AONB), keeping an eye out for the wide variety of wildlife. With scenic viewpoints, country villages and unspoilt natural beauty, Devon’s untouched surroundings are mesmerising.
Although peacefully tucked away, Hillfarrow Hideaway is easy to reach and close by all Devon’s main road arteries being just off junction 27 of the M5. A great central base for those wanting to visit Exeter, Taunton, North Devon, the south coast, Exmoor or even Bath.
Many local attractions are within easy reach which makes for fun filled day trips to: Dunster, Marine Aquarium, Weston Super Mare, Farleigh Castle, Bath, Dartmoor Zoo, Crealy Adventure Park, Exeter Cathedral, Buckfast Abbey plus many more. There is plenty of local food and drink to enjoy, either from the many markets and farm shops, or in the wide variety of cafes, pubs, and restaurants.
Off road parking is available for one vehicle, and one well behaved dog is welcome at this property. For bookings and more information please contact Finest Retreats.

A genuine bijou hideaway, tucked down a little lane just a couple of hundred yards from the A38, but you'd think you were in another world. There are a few neighbours, including a farm, but apart from a few geese getting excited, the occasional mooneigh, you'd never know. The photos show the stylishly fitted, comfortable interior that features lots of natural wood, including the amazing sliding doors on the bedroom and bathroom. The bed is unusual, with the feet end suspended from the ceiling via steel cables! (Be careful if you get up at night for the loo – the host provides a little torch at the bedside.) The bedroom also features a lovely electrically-operated blind for the upper portion of the window, which makes for a very atmospheric view of the moon and stars. Wi-Fi is good and the TV is modern and features the LG app, so you can connect with your iPhone. The 2-ring hob is an induction type, so if you bring any pots/pans of your own (though there are plenty already there), make sure they are compatible. The cooker is a multi-function microwave, so you can bakegrill as well as simply zap hot drinks etc. The kettle is very quick to boil and there is a toaster too. The bathroom is petite but spacious enough, with a decent walk-in Mira shower. Note that both the bathroom and kitchen sinks are powerful and beware, the water can become very hot – Emily the owner says she's going to address that. There's also a delightful little private courtyard area, with garden table, chairs and a parasol, lovely for breakfasta sunset dinner –just for drying towels and clothes! When it came to eating outside, unfortunately we had to negotiate with a family of wasps, and in the end abandoned our attempt: so, word to the wise, take insect repellant! But best of all was the wonderful host Emily, who was so helpful when we needed it and is just a lovely person. Highly recommended and we'll be back!

Wasps – but not the owner's fault! Extremely hot water in sinks – but this is being addressed. A tiny niggle was the position of the loo roll holder in the bathroom which is somewhat inconvenient for the larger individual because it was right at shoulder height – shifting it a few inches towards the radiator would fix this. But that really is all: in all other respects, fabulous.

The hosts were really helpful with advice for the area, but also left us to it whilst we’re were there. Had we not done everything we wanted to do in the area over the last 3 years, we’d go back again in a heartbeat!
