Description
Scallop Cottage is a newly renovated, delightfully stylish character property in the heart of Porthleven. Originally a fisherman's cottage built in 1880 it perfectly blends the traditional features with all the modern decor and appliances guests can expect. Just a short walk to the harbour and beaches, and even closer to restaurants and shops, this is an incredible luxury cottage that will be the perfect base from which to enjoy your next holiday in Cornwall.
The property sits in the heart of the historic harbour town of Porthleven which boasts many excellent independent restaurants, pubs and boutiques and a well stocked supermarket.
Entering in through the front door, you are welcomed into a wonderfully homely living room, with a feature fireplace boasting an electric wood burner effect fire. It comes with optimyst technology to provide an authentic log burner experience but without any of the hard work. With chic styling and generous sofas to sink into, this is an ideal space to unwind in an evening after a long day of exploring the coast.
The kitchen-dining room is a traditional, shaker-style in fitting with the cottage aesthetic while there are all the amenities needed for you, including full oven and hob, kettle, toaster, microwave, and fridge freezer. A delight to cook in, this space offers the all-important element of having the dining area and kitchen space open as one, ideal for socialising with family at the table as you prepare your favourite holiday breakfast!
The dining area offers a rustic wood table and benches, and complete with beautiful complementary kitchenware.
Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms, both with hanging and storage space, and tastefully decorated for a calm and airy feel.
There is also a third bedroom with full size single bed, suitable for either an adult or child, and also offering sophisticated decor.
The stairs are a charming period feature, and being original to the house, care should be taken as they are steep and have reduced headroom.
The family bathroom, also located on the first floor, is in a classic style, offering mains shower over the bath, large basin, and close-coupled WC.
To the rear, there is some private outdoor space which is perfect for storing beach equipment or surfboards, until you are ready to hit sea and sand again the next day!
Locally, you are spoilt for choice in this excellent location; there is the National Trust estate of Penrose to visit, Praa Sands, Marazion and St Michaels Mount to the west, and Helford Passage to the East. The north coast is also within easy reach by car, offering more stunning beaches and coastline such as St Ives, Zennor, and Carbis Bay. The Lizard and Kynance Cove are also well worth a visit meaning you'll be spoilt for choice with your days out! Flambards theme park - an ideal kids day out - is also only a few minutes drive away.
Book easily online through the Finest Retreats website, and start looking forward to your next Cornish adventure.

Loved the cottage really comfortable. Everything in there you could think of.stairs a little steep but expect that from an old property. Location spot on. Walking into portleven to the harbour was 5 mins

The only thing I would say is the toilet I could only just reach to flush it. But other than that everything was great

Lovely cottage close to the harbour. Nice rooms and a well equipped kitchen. Nice to have a welcome bottle of Prosecco and milk in the fridge. Great to have a coffee machine

The toilet flush is really high and being short I had to stretch to reach it and flush several times to get it to work. There was a coffee machine but a cafetière would have been a good addition. The front door lock was tricky to work and made me nersee more

Bins had not been collected from previous visitors (or two!) - green bin full plus black bags in back courtyard. Mattresses are adequate but could of been better.

We had the most wonderful week at Scallop Cottage, it’s the perfect base to check out Porthleven - an amazing harbour town with so many lovely places to eat, drink and explore. We were so impressed with the standard of the accommodation, it was a reasee more
We had the most wonderful week at Scallop Cottage, it’s the perfect base to check out Porthleven - an amazing harbour town with so many lovely places to eat, drink and explore. We were so impressed with the standard of the accommodation, it was a real home from home and and had everything we needed, from super soft towels and bedding, lovely glassware and even a high chair, travel cot and stair gate for our little one. It’s location was also brilliant for visiting other nearby attractions. We absolutely loved our stay and hope to visit again soon.

The only thing we would improve would be to maybe have a bench/small table and chairs in the yard area to enjoy a glass of wine on warmer evenings as with a small child it’s difficult for us to stay out late

Visited all the surrounding areas, our favourites are Mousehole and St Ives. Recommend Kota Kai for a family meal and the Ship Inn for a drink overlooking the harbour.
